Perhaps the developers will chime in. It looks like the Icon
uses a tool called 'busybox'. http://www.busybox.net/
This is for Embedded Linux systems which means it can run on a portable
device or a network device like a router. The Linux commands seem to be
compatible with GNU utilities.http://www.gnu.org
You might want to Google the Speakup project to learn about the
screenreader.
Any Linux book that teaches you about the 'bash' shell and basic commands
like 'ls' to list files, or 'vi' to edit a text file should be helpful to
you.

(smile) I'd like to learn more about Linux with the ultimate result of being able to use the Icon's console. I am writing to find out if there are any simple books on Linux that others recommend. There are quite a few on Bookshare, but I am confused by the various editions and kinds of Linux. Does the Icon use a particular version of Linux? Any help getting started would be much appreciated.
